Salmon Run 2025

September 20th

Salmon Run is an annual community event in which runners empathise with the epic journey of the salmon upriver from sea to spawning grounds by running the same route in a relay and ultra run from dawn til dusk on one day, usually around World Rivers Day (September). It is much more than a run – Its a celebration of this remarkable and endangered species and its ecological and cultural significance for our rivers.

The Run

In our Salmon Run we run along their route as they swim.

From the sea at Exmouth to the key spawning grounds on Exmoor is approximately 43 miles. Our Salmon Run is two runs: a. a non-competitive relay in which a team of between 4 and 8 runners carry Samantha, a beautiful cloth salmon (baton) passing her on from one team to another each of which runs one of 6 sections of between 12 and 4 miles from sea to spawning grounds and b. A competitive ‘ultra’ run where individual runners run all the 43 miles. Both start early in the morning following the same route and the run is complete by about 8pm in the evening.

The Gathering

Join us at Sideshore for the Gathering.
